Six Apps That Will Pay for Your iPhone

After watching the hubby enjoy his iPhone for the last few years, I managed to convince him that I needed one. If I had known then, what I know now, I would also have used the argument that it would pay for itself through these money saving applications! In the last 6 months, it has saved me at least $5o. I’m already halfway to the cost of my phone!

Groupon: If you haven’t already discovered the awesome saving powers of Groupon, go, go, go! The daily deals offer deep discounts on dining, entertainment, services and shopping at various locations across the country. The iPhone application not only allows access to each day’s offer, but you can redeem your purchased certificates electronically. No more wasting money because you forgot to print and bring the coupon with you!

Yowza: This application offers more electronic coupons. Using your geo location, it will find coupons & sales for retailers near you. If you find yourself out doing shopping, be sure to check for available coupons before you check out no matter how far from home you may be!

Shop Savvy: I think I used this application every day through the holiday season. It was my favorite tool for keeping our Christmas budget under control. When you find something you like, this app uses your phone’s camera to scan the barcode. Read reviews, compare prices and find online deals before you make your purchase!

Kids Eat For: Kids eat free offers at restaurants are one of the greatest ways to save on family dining. This application will show nearby offers. While there are several kids’ dining apps available, I prefer this one because it also includes kids eat for less offers some restaurants have $.99 meals or other deals that are left off of traditional kids eat free lists.

Gas Buddy: GasBuddy.com has long been a favorite tool for lowering our gas budget. You can find the best price in your area before you fill up often saving as much as $200 per year. The iPhone app is perfect for travel. We pull it up when we know we’re close to needing gas, and compare the prices we see along the road against an area farther down the road that we’ve chosen on Gas Buddy.

Cardstar: While Cardstar isn’t specifically a money saving app, having all my reward and discount cards at my fingertips has lowered my expenses on more than one occasion. This app allows you to enter your membership cards for just about anything. It includes several national retailers, services and loyalty programs, plus the ability to add your own (like a local library card). Then, the app creates a barcode image you can scan as needed. You won’t be stuck missing sales or losing out on points because you left the card at home.

There are many other coupon, grocery and meal planning applications that will help with frugal living endeavors, but these are my favorites. Using these apps, I’ve been able to quantify my savings. While not all of them are free, they can easily pay for themselves after just one use!
